Kisan Andolan: A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan has disposed of the petition filed by Dallewal, who was removed from the Khanauri protest site on the Punjab-Haryana border on November 26. The Supreme Court on Monday asked Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to convince the protesting farmers not to block the highway and to take care of the convenience of the people. Dallewal is on a fast unto death at the Khanauri border to pressurize the farmers for their demands. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan has disposed of the petition filed by Dallewal, who was removed from the Khanauri protest site on the Punjab-Haryana border on November 26. The bench said that we have seen that he has been released and he also convinced a fellow protester to end his fast to death on Saturday. The bench also said that the court has noted the issues raised by the farmers and it is being considered in the pending cases. The bench told advocate Guninder Kaur Gill, appearing for Dallewal, that in a democratic system, you can protest peacefully, but be careful that people are not inconvenienced. You all know that Khanauri border is a lifeline for Punjab. We are not commenting on whether the protest is right or wrong. Justice Kant said Dallewal should convince the protesters to protest peacefully under the law. The bench said that it is not considering Dallewal's petition at this time, but he (Dallewal) may approach it later. Dallewal was allegedly forcibly removed from Khanauri border a few hours before he was to begin his fast to death on November 26 and taken to a hospital in Ludhiana. He was discharged from the hospital on the evening of November 27. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on November 29 challenging his alleged illegal detention by the Punjab Police. A day after his release, Dallewal joined the fast to death at Khanauri border to press for the farmers’ demands on November 30. The farmers have been camped at Shambhu and Khanauri borders between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after security forces stopped their march to Delhi. The protesters have accused the Centre of not taking any steps to meet their demands. They claim that the Centre has not held any talks with them on their issues since February 18. Farmers’ demands:- -Legal guarantee for MSP. -Swaminathan Commission recommendations should be implemented. -Pension for farmers and farm laborers. -Farm loans of farmers should be waived. -Land Acquisition Act, 2013 should be restored. -Families of farmers who died during the farmers' agitation in 2020-21 should get compensation.
