Washington: Basal cell carcinoma on the chest of US President Joe Biden was successfully removed on February 16. It is a type of skin cancer. White House doctor David O'Connor said that he is now fine and no further treatment is required. His wife Jill Biden also had two basal cells removed from her right eye and chest in January. While there, his son Beau died of brain cancer in 2015. David O'Connor said all cancerous tissue was removed during a routine health checkup on February 16. Now he is fully fit to take on the responsibilities of the White House. The area on the breast where the basal cell has been removed is perfectly fine and the President will continue to undergo skin tests as a routine check-up. O'Connor said Biden had several non-myeloma skin cancers removed from his body before running for president. He said that Biden used to spend a lot of time in the sun in his youth, due to which this may have happened. Also, he said that two basal lesions were removed from the right eye and chest of the first lady of the country, Jill Biden, in January. Zill said in an interview last week that now she uses more caution in applying sunscreen. Basal cell carcinoma is a slow-growing cancer that is usually confined to the surface of the skin. Doctors can remove it by making a small incision. It is rarely life threatening.
