PM Modi speaks to Indian pilot Captain Samit via video call; praises his bravery in saving 174 lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Indian pilot Captain Samit on Friday, highly commending his bravery and presence of mind. Captain Samit saved the lives of 174 passengers—disregarding his own safety—during a crisis on a flight bound for Israel. The Prime Minister told the captain that the entire nation is praying for his well-being and that the *Mahamrityunjaya Mantra* is being chanted for his speedy recovery. The Prime Minister also remarked that the people of India are not those who take others' lives, but rather those who protect others by risking their own lives.

Passengers' lives saved through 17 years of experience and divine grace

During the conversation, Captain Samit shared that while he was battling between life and death during that critical moment, he was reciting the *Hanuman Chalisa*. He stated that this was made possible only by God's grace and his 17 years of flying experience. Despite having his eyes closed, he remained aware of the aircraft's position, enabling him to open the door at the last moment and avert a major accident.
