American millionaire gets obsessed with hunting, nearly killed by a herd of elephants

Digital Desk, New Delhi: An American millionaire's hunting hobby in the African country of Gabon proved costly. He had to pay the price with his life. An American millionaire and big game hunter died after being trampled by a herd of elephants during a $40,000 hunting trip.

The elephants picked him up, threw him down, and trampled him

Despite having a gun in hand, the elephants pushed the suspect aside and then proceeded to trample him. The guide lost his hunting rifle and suffered serious injuries.

A former hunter, a friend of both, told the New York Post that the American and his guide could not see the mammals because a wall of dense forest was obscuring their view.

"In the forest, Ernie and his guide suddenly encountered five female wild elephants and their calf. Sensing danger, the elephants immediately attacked them."

Preparations to send body home

Dossio’s body is now being flown by the U.S. Embassy in Gabon to California, where he lived with his longtime wife, Betty, and two sons, Jeff and Blake.

Dossio made his fortune as the owner of Pacific Agrilands Inc., a company that manages 12,000 acres of vineyards and also provides services and equipment financing to winemakers.

Last August, another American millionaire named Asher Watkins was mauled to death by a Cape buffalo during a hunting trip in South Africa. Watkins, 52, was chasing a 1.3-ton Cape buffalo through the 50,000-acre Bambisana range when the animal attacked him at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.
