Visas for 1796 Sikh pilgrims for Nankana Sahib

A group of Sikh pilgrims will leave on November 4 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has arranged for a group of 1796 Sikh pilgrims to travel to Pakistan via the Wagah border crossing.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that a group of Sikh pilgrims is going to Pakistan after Operation Sindhur. After the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India launched military action against Pakistan through Operation Sindhur and the neighboring country retaliated, tensions arose in the relations between the two countries. India had severed all its relations with Pakistan. Air, road and rail routes were also closed, which remain closed till now, and it was during this time that the group was allowed to go to Pakistan.

Giving information, Shiromani Committee Secretary Partap Singh said that every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a group of Sikh pilgrims is sent by the Shiromani Committee to visit the Gurdwaras in Pakistan. He said that in this regard, the Shiromani Committee had sent the passports of 1802 pilgrims to the Pakistani Embassy this time for obtaining visas, out of which 1796 pilgrims have received visas. He also thanked the governments of India and Pakistan for generously providing visas to the pilgrims going on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Sahib.
