Kedarnath Dham: Kedarnath Yatra begins after four days, more than two thousand devotees leave

  The Kedarnath Yatra, which was closed for the last four days due to incessant rains and falling stones on the Kedarnath footpath, resumed on Saturday. More than two thousand pilgrims left for Kedarnath Dham on Saturday. In the last few days, due to heavy rains and landslides at several places, keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims, the administration had temporarily banned the Kedarnath Yatra for four days.

A landslide occurred on the highway between Gaurikund and Kedarnath in and around Munkatiya and the hill, while stones were also falling from the hill. Due to the rain, stones were also falling at several places on the footpath from Gaurikund to Kedarnath Dham. In view of this, the police administration had temporarily banned traffic for the safety of the pilgrims.

Police was monitoring the weather

On Saturday, the police were monitoring the weather in Sonprayag since morning. On the instructions of senior officers, when the weather was favourable, the police allowed the pilgrims from Sonprayag to go to Gaurikund, while from Gaurikund too, after assessing the condition of the footpath and if all the conditions were favourable, the pilgrims were allowed to go to Kedarnath.

Two thousand pilgrims left for Kedarnath Dham from Sonprayag. Especially at sensitive places between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, the movement of the pilgrims was done under police protection. Kotwali Inspector Rakendra Kathait said that when the weather was favourable, the pilgrims were sent to Gaurikund under security. From there too, the pilgrims were sent further according to the condition of the footpath.
