HMPV Virus Cases: Another case of HMPV has come to light in Gujarat, 8-year-old child infected; now the number of cases has increased to this number

  Cases of HMP virus are continuously emerging in the country. Along with this, the latest case has come to light from Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. According to the information received, an eight-year-old boy has been found infected with human metapneumovirus (HMPV virus). With this, the total number of HMPV cases in the state has now reached three. An official gave this information on Friday.

8-year-old boy gets HMP infection

He said that the boy, who comes from an agricultural labourer family in Prantij taluka, was found positive for HMPV in a test conducted in a private laboratory but the health officials sent his blood samples to the government laboratory for confirmation.

The child is currently admitted to a private hospital in Himmatnagar city and till now he was being considered a suspected case of HMPV.

Sabarkantha District Collector Ratan Kanwar Gadhvicharan said on Friday that the government laboratory has confirmed that the boy was infected with HMPV. He is currently undergoing treatment and his condition is stable.

Doctors at the hospital told reporters that the boy was on a ventilator.

The first case was reported in Gujarat on January 6.

It is worth noting that the first case of HMPV in Gujarat was reported on January 6, when a two-month-old baby from Rajasthan was found suffering from the viral disease with symptoms like fever, nasal congestion, runny nose and cough. He was discharged after treatment at a hospital here.

On Thursday, an 80-year-old man was confirmed to have the viral infection in Ahmedabad city. The patient, who suffers from asthma, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Discovered in 2001, HMPV belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family. It is closely related to the Respiratory Syncytial Virus. It is spread through respiratory droplets released by coughing or sneezing, as well as by touching contaminated surfaces or coming into direct contact with infected individuals.
