  New York: Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta appeared before the trial judge for the first time in America on the charge of giving contract to the alleged conspiracy to kill terrorist Pannu. Senior Judge Victor Marrero has fixed September 13 as the next date of hearing after Friday. The court ordered the prosecution to share the evidence with the defense. The next hearing will be scheduled in September. Nikhil was arrested in the Czech Republic in June last year and brought to New York on June 14. On June 17, he was arraigned before Magistrate Judge James Catt, who ordered him detained.

This conspiracy was hatched together with the government employee

Assistant District Attorney Camille LaToya Fletcher explained the government's case against Gupta to the trial judge on Friday. He reiterated allegations that Gupta had conspired with an Indian government employee against a US citizen of Indian origin.

However, they did not reveal the identity of both of them. He was referring to Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. He holds American and Canadian citizenship. He lives in New York and heads Sikhs for Justice. The Indian government has declared Pannu a terrorist. Fletcher said Gupta spoke to a hitman. A reward of $100,000 was stated for the murder, and an advance of $15,000 was also offered. Fletcher said the man he thought was a hitman was actually an undercover agent.

Fletcher added that government evidence included a phone seized from Gupta, which recorded a conversation he had with an Indian government employee. Along with electronic devices, there is also material from the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency. Apart from this, there are videos and audios of Gupta's conversation with the hitman. At the same time, lawyer Geoffrey Chabrowe requested security for Nikhil Gupta but he did not seek bail. The judge said that the defense will be given adequate time to prepare its case. During the hearing, the court room was full of Sikhs. At the same time, a group of Khalistanis was protesting on the other side of the road in front of the court house.
