Punjab government's big action: Two forest officials who have been absent from duty for a long time because of corruption have been suspended

Chandigarh: The government has suspended two IFS officers of the forest department who are facing allegations of corruption and have been absent from duty for a long time. Both officers are said to be absconding to avoid arrest by the vigilance. The department has sought documents from the Vigilance Bureau for departmental and legal action against them.

On June 6, Vigilance had registered a case against former Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and District Forest Officer Amit Chauhan on charges of corruption. The police had arrested Sadhu Singh Dharasmot and others, but Amit Chauhan was not caught by the police. Similarly, Amit Mishra, Chief Conservator of the Forest Department, during his posting in the Forest Development Corporation, defrauded the government of lakhs of rupees by showing the expensive price of the land purchased for forest development. Vigilance issued summons to the concerned officer during the investigation, but he absconded instead of joining the investigation. He has also been suspended due to continuous absenteeism on duty.

Raji P Srivastava, Additional Principal Secretary, Department of Forests and Wildlife Protection, has confirmed the suspension of the two officers. He said that the vigilance has registered a case against two former ministers of the forest department Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Sangat Singh Gilji and some officers for issuing wrong permits for cutting khair trees, transferring officials by taking bribes, and issuing NOCs for various projects. Two cases were registered under the allegations.
