Covid-19 Update: 656 new cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours, one death

  New Delhi: A total of 656 cases of Covid-19 sub variant JN.1 and one death have been reported in the last 24 hours in the country, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of active cases of Covid-19 in the country was recorded at 3742. Earlier on Saturday, India recorded a multi-fold increase in fresh Covid cases, with Kerala contributing the most.

According to Union Health Ministry data, a total of 423 cases were reported, of which 266 were from Kerala and 70 from neighboring Karnataka. Two deaths have been reported in Kerala.

Meanwhile, Dr Randeep Guleria, former director and senior pulmonologist at AIIMS, said the new subvariant of Covid is not causing serious infections and hospitalizations.

"It's more prevalent, it's spreading faster, and it's slowly becoming a dominant form," Dr. Guleria said. Not causing hospitalization. Most of the symptoms are mainly upper extremity such as fever, cough, chills, sore throat, runny nose and body aches."
